The book guides the reader to the extremities of rural peripheries, roma ghettos, ghettoized villages, with the aim of presenting what kind of economic, social and spatial processes assure the continuous reproduction of spaces inhabited by social groups considered to be romas by the majority society, and with whom they are not willing to get in touch with except in a strongly regulated manner. Roma ghettos are eternal, present in an ever-changing form in society. They have always existed and will continue to exist until there are families who are considered to be roma and poor by the majority, and with whom the majority society is not willing to coexist and until the functioning of educational and social institutions permits only to maintain this situation and not to transform it. The book presents the everyday lives of inhabitans of two, ethnically and socially homogenous roma villages, their living conditions, the consequences of being excluded from the primary labour market and their attempts or failure to return to the world of legal labour. The reader will gain an accurate insight into how local society is differentiated along the available opportunities and resources, and how this shapes the everyday relations of families and the functioning of the local community.
